Scott's Canditions
Several pools knee to thigh deep. Some slippery mud too. Apparently it was dry a week ago, but no more. A pretty fresh dead bighorn is in the slot.
One wade and one swim. Warm February day (69F) so didn't need wet suits, though the swimmer was a bit chilly.
North Fork is flowing at 1-2 cfs. All pools avoidable, but 3 out of four of us got a little wet on the 2nd to last rappel since it was flowing.
Replaced two anchors, now all are in good condition, but one anchor can get covered in ice during cold weather.
Exit up South Fork is harder than it is to be. It helps to have a climber along at one place.
My son and I did West Fork White Roost yesterday. It appears that someone did the canyon not that long ago, but when I inspected and yanked on the sling for the chockstone anchor for the big rappel, it shifted with only a moderate tug on the sling
We built a deadman that worked, but it isn't that beefy and if it rained or had a freeze thaw cycle, I'd use extreme caution and test/inspect the anchor thoroughly (which you should always do anyway). There are no rocks left at the level of the rappel or the level above it for anchor material.
Good summer canyon. One belly deep pool in the Frylet/Upper Slot and one nice and cold swim in the lower narrows. No wetsuit needed on this hot day.
Excellent conditions; canyon itself is only OK. Some ice and frozen waterfalls, but only on short section is slightly challenging because of ice. One anchor is covered in 3" of ice. All poison ivy is devoid of leaves.
There were two real pools in the canyon, but we could get around one. The last pool going down canyon is hard to get around and has shin deep water.
Still pretty full. Keeper pothole just emerging, but less than a foot below being brim full. Water slightly chilly in a few places, but was pleasant without wet suits since we didn't leave until 11 am.
