Diana Canyon
Last Candition: October 19, 2013
Completely dry. Great beginner canyon. Not all that narrow though.
Perfect conditions. No water, in spite of 50% forecast for previous day. Three adults and five 2nd-6th grade boys, our sons, completed the initial canyon in about four hours, then added the little side canyon as a bonus. Drove a 4WD high-clearance vehicle right up to the drop-in, which was a nice change.
A great canyon to practice skills without many penalty points. Definitely overbolted. Didn't see anyone in the canyon, getting there at 10am. Completely dry
Great canyon for beginners or big groups. We went on a Thursday and encountered no one.
Did this near mid-day on a Friday. Place was packed with guided groups - over 20 people. All water was minimal and avoidable. Even more bolts than when we did this route a few years ago. Good training canyon we guess. Has some scenic sections but presently overrun. Suggest that if you do it, go very early morning or later afternoon to avoid the guided groups.
All anacors were in good condition. There are two large pools in the canyon filled with hundreds of bees. They were too preoccupied with mating to sting any of us.
Overall, Diana's is a much better canyon than we expected. It is certainly worth doing once.
This canyon is used heavily by guides, so if you are OK going slow you will have a good time.
There are two small pools of very easily avoidable water. This canyon is really photogenic, but also very easy. However, I feel like most of the bolts in this canyon are unnecessary and some simply make the canyon ugly by being comically unneeded and smack in the middle of scenic spots.
The climb up the sand dune at the end was annoying.
Unexpected delightful romp. The perfect beginner canyon. We did it the day after a week of rains, so it held a fair amount of waist-deep water and included a few slides into pools. Really fun in those conditions!
Water in the bottom of the upper raps. The 2nd rap has a waist deep pine soup. After 5th rap, no longer in water at end of raps until the last rap. Did this as the sun set and into the night with headlamps. Super fun with warm fresh rainwater and cooler evenings. Refreshing with all the new rain water.
This is a short but really attractive canyon. Has some really nice photogenic sections. Richly colored rock. Used to be unbolted, but now, someone has completely bolted the entire route. You could still ignore the bolts and find some good practice building anchors, using potshots or even sandtrap. Mostly a "rappel" type canyon. No real stemming or tight squeezing. Water at two drops on Friday before all the rain hit the Zion area. The water that was there was only thigh deep or so. Less than 3 hours for 2 people to complete.
Had fun with the family in this one. All drops are now bolted into submission, except the final deadman rap. Probably did 6 or so short raps. Zero water. Anchors good- deadman showing a little wear but dug down and it still looks good. Sand hill exit is fast but will make a 5 year old complain for quite some time.
Great beginner canyon. Some water but avoidable. Anchors in good condition.
