Mud Springs
Last Candition: September 29, 2011
Full to the brim with clean water. Able to avoid all water. All new anchors. A few redundant ones with a bolted anchor with an easy start next to a natural anchor with an awkward start...
Enough of a trickle of water moving to refresh all the pools. Most are completely clear with all the pools full enough to jump if you so choose. All the anchors have fresh webbing and the bushwhacking isn't too terrible right now. We had a group of 3 and cleared it in roughly 6.5hrs with no thermal protection at all. Not cold enough to warrant a wet suit in our opinion.
Mud Spring isn't flowing. The pot holes look to be about 18" below full. All are avoidable. Still lots of bushwacking which is the only real detractor of the canyon. Raps all have webbing in place. One even has one bolt with a little bit of webbing. I think you might only have a few weeks left before it gets too hot to do. There is almost no protection from the sun. A very fun canyon overall.
Somewhat new canyon in the Blue Diamond/Cottonwood area of Red Rock.
9 rappels, no bolts. Mostly solid trees and a few boulder slings in the slot/watercourse. Replaced a few slings as old ones were quite dry and frayed. No wetsuits needed in summer/fall, but there are still 2 swimmers in the bottom section. Nice simul/balanced rap option on the boulder rap #6. Good chutes in the watercourse, will be great in Spring when flowing.
Currently heavy with mosquitos, and still quite a bit of bushwhacking up top until more parties go through.
