Did this as a quick canyon because it was a hot August day and rains were forecast for the afternoon. Took about 1.5 hours for a group of 5. Fun little canyon.

It rained last night for the first time in a while, according to the gas station cashier. Still, West fork of Shillelagh dry, and in great condition. Fun in a short package. I've done a lot of other North Wash canyons a couple times and avoided Shillelagh because it didn't sound as fun. Well, it's actually quite good! We thought the downclimbs were a bit spicier than Blarney left fork, and the 70-foot rappel is very pretty and straightforward. Just not as narrow as others, but still very nice.

East fork. Very easy, short and sweet. Good for beginners.

For West Shill-

There are currently two dead and rotten cows near the bottom of the canyon that you must walk on top of to get past.

Otherwise the canyon is lovely.

Went down both the East (Right) fork and the West (Left) fork. Both are in fantastic condition with new webbing at all rappel sites. No water or mud.

East fork. There are only 2 rappels and the 90 footer is really fun. the anchor is extremely long and nice so please DO NOT cut it out and make it short and terrible. There are some fun easy down climbs after the big rappel so put your harnesses away and have fun.

The east fork is in awesome shape. Anchors are good although somewhat over done. Pothole at bottom of big rap is dry. Pull from above the PH for easier pull and to avoid rope grooves.

West Fork completely dry. Second rap webbing recently changed.

Left fork is dry, anchors good. Right fork big rappel anchor rebuilt, the dead man was not sturdy. Extended webbing to platform for easier rope pull (we used a fiddle stick). Pot hole at the bottom full of mud about knee deep, once in you are stuck until a partner assist out. Loads of fun. Enjoyed the rest of Right fork more then Left as there are so many narrow and downclimb sections.

Both forks completely dry - even the pothole after big rap in the right/east fork. All anchors good or replaced.

Water throughout. East fork 100' rap pot hole at the bottom has avoidable water. Anchors OK, however one has extraneous non-equalized webbing on webbing that we avoided.

After warming up on Blarney right/east fork, found a way to avoid hiking completely out the draw by scampering up on the slickrock just after the last little narrow section in main Blarney and regained the Blarney/Shillelagh trail. Went on to the left fork of Shill. This is a much more entertaining fork than the other and longer. Completely dry, anchors good.

Anchors in good shape. The hole at the bottom of the second rap was dry. The rest of the canyon was mud free.

The rope grooves are becoming a hazard to the webbing part of the anchor and to the ropes being used. I recommend people take the time to make a completely new anchor to the far right (LDC)at the 2nd rap.

Perfect weather on Sat. for main/east fork descent. No water at all - just a little damp at bottom of 2nd rap. Sunday, light rain & 1" of snow as low as camp level and all across upper levels, so that may feed some pools/puddles, etc.

Shillelagh East Fork took 6 of us a little over 2 hours. No wading. Kelsey shows rap 2 as 32m (105'), but the middle of my 120' rope was on the ground, so the rap was less than 60'. Perhaps 32m was for short webbing on rap anchor. Recommend using long webbing (25 feet?), which is what we found there.
