Upper Three Canyons
Last Candition: October 16, 2011
Plenty of water to enjoy. Keeper pothole isn't, at present; about 4" of water above lip exit. All anchors in decent shape. Another winter will require close study of webbing. Pay attention on return to TH or you will be hiking alot more than anticipated; easy to miss return drainage.
Wet! Wet! Wet! Started encountering by-passable water at the last two drops in the side canyon before main fork of Three. Once in the main fork, water obstacles began immediately. Looks like it may have drained down about a foot from highest mark, but still very full. Multiple swimmers. Found extended sling for rap anchor at first drop. Thereafter, did not find anything for the second, multi-stage drop with the pothole escape problem. Since everything was full, no escape problems at all - just swim through. All wore 3 - 5 mil full type wetsuits.
One member of our group with a Vibe managed to drive it to the TH with some care. Round trip canyon time for group of 5 was 6.5 hours. Drive in or out requires about 45 minutes in addition. Overall, road was in okay condition with some minor rutting. Be careful as you exit the second underpass tunnel under the interstate.
"Water" (I use the term loosely) progressively grosser in each pool. Two potholes were completely black and foul. Nice canyon, but water excessively disgusting at this time.
